A Decade of Accountabaloney

This week marks 10 years since we launched Accountabaloney. What started in September 2015 as two Florida moms worried about the damage of high-stakes testing has grown into a decade-long effort to call out bad policy, lift up good ideas, and stand strong for our public schools.

In those 10 years, Accountabaloney has published 455 blog posts (including one that made it all the way into The Washington Post), shared countless updates on social media, and—most importantly—connected with families, educators, and advocates across Florida and beyond who care deeply about protecting public education.

The phrase “accountabaloney” began as a way to describe Florida’s broken accountability system, but over the years it’s come to symbolize something bigger: the determination to speak truth, demand better for our kids, and never stop shining a light on policies that harm our schools.

Thank you to everyone who has read, shared, commented, and joined the fight for public schools. Your voices and support help keep this work alive.

Here’s to the next chapter—because until every child has access to a strong, fully funded public education, there’s still more accountabaloney to call out.

💛 Sue

ICYWW: Suzette stepped away from Accountabaloney in 2021, but we still get together (not often enough!) to talk about family, life in the Keys and, of course, public education policy in Florida.
