Changing Pronouns

Today, Accountabaloney is changing its pronoun from We to I.

Suzette Lopez, my dear friend, co-founder and writing partner, is stepping down from Accountabaloney so she can focus on her family and her health.

For more than 5 years, we have worked together to make Accountabaloney a growing voice supporting common sense and Florida’s public schools. Our goal was to call out the “baloney” we saw in Florida’s education policy. We have been dedicated to holding our leaders accountable and working to ensure equity of funding and policy. We are, first and foremost, advocates for public education.

Suzette and I shared a common goal and mission and sought to bring positive change. Over the last few years, I have taken the lead in writing and posting on social media as Suzette began a battle with a very aggressive form of Ovarian Cancer. In Sept of 2020, Suzette, after having been in remission, found herself, once again, battling the cancer. She is still in treatment and continues to battle this disease. She has decided to step away from Accountabaloney and to focus on her health.

Suzette was the person who pushed me to start writing. She is an artistic genius, who made our website look great and created the eye-catching graphics that caught your attention. I am grateful to Suzette for her friendship and our years together with Accountabaloney and hope you will all join me in wishing her a full and speedy recovery.
